What We Do

We run club nights for either racing, training or social throughout the year for all levels of experience, the racing season, and our Thursday evening beginners night have proven very popular with both novices and more experienced sailors alike, all battling it out to be top of their class - whilst helping others improve their own sailing of course!

Our racing is competitive with the main classes sailed being Enterprises, Lasers and Solos, with a mixed menagerie fleet often taking part.

During the summer months there is one or two races held on a Tuesday evening, the first race normally starting at 19.00 and a fuller program, often with three races, held on a Sunday. Starting time for Sundays are set at 11:00, 13:15 and 15:00.

Thursday evenings in the summer are a time for general sailing, basic training and familiarisation, with helpful advice from other members. It is a very relaxed and informal way to learn to sail, and a very popular club evening!

We also run training courses in the summer at beginner and intermediate level for sailing, along with powerboat handling and race officer guidance.

As the evenings draw in, the winter sees racing taking place on Sundays only and the Thursday evenings coming to a close, though all are welcome to attend a Sunday session, if you take part in the racing or not. During the winter we hold the Silver Wing Sailing Club - Open Winter Series, where, for a fee of £30, we invite all non-members to sail on any number of our Sundays throughout the winter - with a very well supported race on Boxing Day. We welcome sailors of all dingy classes, and there are prizes for the best results over the winter.

Club racing is split into three divisions, A, B and C, and you are placed in a class appropriate to your boating experience. This ensures all club members are in with a chance of winning. The race format is generally handicap racing, with all classes welcome. We occasionally branch out into pursuit racing if the Race Officer is feeling adventurous that day!

Additional programmes including local fixtures, regattas and open class races take place on various Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year. We also have an international fixture list which extents to most of Western Europe, Canada, the USA and Australia. A variety of social events complement the sailing throughout the year, our biggest being SailAid.

Whatever your level, our club days provide an excellent base to improve your ability and experience. Our active racing scene gives you ample opportunity to do just that, and our relaxed Thursday evenings are a great place to practise, relax and unwind on a lazy summer night.
