Powerboat Guidelines

Powerboats are a large part of on water safety at our club. An inexperienced powerboat driver can cause a lot more damage than good. If you feel you are not sure what you're doing in any aspect of using our powerboats - please, please, please ask!

Two main points I want to highlight here.

Never(!) drive a powerboat without wearing the killcord!
Obviously there are exceptions in some conditions, for example if you are doing close quarter work rescuing a boat, and are required to keep switching from the helm to the front of the boat, but use common sense. Even falling out of a boat at slow speed, it will turn in a circle and come back to the spot you fell out!

Turn the engine off when people are in the water near you
If you have anyone in the water near the back of your boat, or anyone near you at all, then turn off your engine! It is so easy to slip and knock the throttle, even with the safety button, especially when concentrating so hard on getting people out of the water quickly!
